For the first time in two years, the 2022 Annual Social Meeting was held in person at Keppel Club. With 90 members in attendance, this year’s edition also heralded the passing of the baton to a new generation.

Chairing the meeting this time was outgoing Lady Captain Meenah Fong, who expressed her gratitude to club members for their long-time support. Ms Fong was also optimistic that new leadership would provide a strong voice for the Club’s ladies in uncertain times.

This year, one item dominated the meeting agenda – an election to secure the next Lady Captain.

Two contenders jostled for the title of Lady Captain this year: Ms Sandra Soon, who has served on the Ladies Committee since 2015 and has held the position of Lady Vice-Captain since 2018; and Ms Yvonne Lim, who has been a principal member since 2011 and a Ladies Committee member since 2018.

Considering herself a protégé of the incumbent and former Lady Captains Meenah Fong and Olivia Chung, MsSoon has had first-hand experience running golfing events. In her speech to the audience, she highlighted her strong understanding of the needs of lady golfers and listed several qualities that made her a worthy candidate. “Im’ not easily deterred, and I’m excited to be challenged by what we can do at Sime,” she said.
